Abney Village Hall

The village hall at Abney is managed as a charity for the hamlets of Abney, Abney Grange, Offerton and Highlow - remote, upland hill farming communities. The hall provides a focal point for this scattered community and is regularly used for social gatherings and events.

An improvement programme is in place to bring the facility up-to-date, there being no significant upgrade since it was rebuilt and the charity established in 1980. The improvements will enable the hall to generate more income to become more self-sustaining in the future.

The £5,625 Community Resilience Grant awarded by Derbyshire Dales District Council helped pay for refurbishment of the flooring – new carpet tiles and sanded and resealed floor - plus a replacement water heater with larger capacity and loft insulation.

Sarah Bowles (Chair) says:

We are hugely grateful for the grant from Derbyshire Dales District Council which takes us one step closer to completing our refurbishment programme. The refurbished flooring has given a huge lift to the space, and the increased capacity water heater will make it easier catering for larger events. The loft insulation complements our new secondary glazing to make the hall more energy efficient.
