Digital Urban specializes in creating detailed 3D digital models, or "digital twins," and immersive experiences to engage people with projects in the built environment.
The Bakewell-based company aims to bring towns and cities to life, making the planning and development process more transparent, accessible, and interactive. The technology creates virtual worlds that communities can step into and explore.
A £21,289 Business Development Grant from Derbyshire Dales District Council enabled a significant expansion for the company.
With the funding eight new high-performance computers were purchased - four dedicated model machines to expand their capacity for complex 3D modelling and four VR machines to ensure the quality of their virtual reality experiences. Also five new Meta Quest 3 headsets.
The supporting infrastructure was simultaneously improved with a new server and network, providing clients with faster and more reliable connections to access their models. Plus a new air conditioning system dedicated specifically to the four new model machines to maintain an optimal operating temperature.
Simon Mabey (Founder and CEO) says:
We are incredibly grateful to Derbyshire Dales District Council for this funding, which has been a game-changer for our technical capacity. It has enabled us to invest in the powerful hardware that is essential for creating complex 3D models and smooth, high-fidelity VR experiences. Ultimately, this means we can deliver an even better and more reliable service to our clients, helping them understand their proposals in stunning detail.
