The Bramwell Memorial Institute at Taddington acts as a hub for the community. There are two main rooms – a large hall and a smaller room – both available for hire by a wide range of local organisations and groups.
Rising energy costs had become an increasing problem for the hall’s management committee. The purchase and installation of solar panels on the roof, part funded by a £16,067 Community Resilience Grant from Derbyshire Dales District Council, has not only reduced energy bills but also provided an additional income stream for the running of the hall.
Stuart Jagger (Chair, Institute Management Committee) says:
Due to the pattern of our electricity use, the installed system was designed to provide a significant income through feed-in power to the grid. The projected annual benefit from this plus savings in our electricity purchases is ca £2000. After the first 2 months of operation we were already well on the way to meeting target income.
