Cubley Village Hall is a community hall which was built in 1935. Since then it has been the centre of village life, hosting events organised by the trustees as well as being available for private hire. It promotes social connectedness through a range of events and activities in this small rural community.
The trustees had recently completed a two-year programme of refurbishment and improvement both inside and outside the hall. However there were still improvements required to the access and grounds to make the hall more attractive and usable by the community.
A £8,962 Community resilience Grant from Derbyshire Dales District Council helped pay for a tarmac path to replace the existing one, the removal of dangerous trees, improved disabled access, new pedestrian and road gates and additional picnic tables for the hall gardens.
A regular programme of events is now running and the improved facilities have been an important factor in encouraging participation and use for private hire. The resulting income stream has been critical in ensuring the hall’s future financial security.
Peter Harvey (Chair of Trustees) says:
The Community Resilience Grant from Derbyshire Dales District Council was critical in funding the project. Participation in our events has increased significantly, as has the number of our volunteers. The hall is once more a social hub for the village and its surrounding area.
