The Medway Centre

Built by volunteers in the middle of Bakewell, the Medway Centre is a popular and well-used community centre. It is a modern and attractive venue for meetings, parties, events and performances, providing low cost accommodation for a wide range of local community groups. The maintenance and running of the building is adminstered by a charitable Association.

A £6,284 Community Resilience Grant from Derbyshire Dales District Council paid for the replacement of an external security door and 25 year old window panels which have become clouded due to broken seals. The effect of the is not only a visual improvement but an increase in the efficiency of the heating system with savings in energy costs.

Margaret Stuckey (Centre Administrator) says:

We have already received positive comments especially about the door replacement which is more secure and made the exterior view more attractive. The windows have helped decrease our overall energy costs by providing much improved insulation.
